In essence they are doing the table top equivalent of DLC for console/PC games which is a reasonably logical step to take. If little Timmy, the WoW noob will pay £5 for a new cosmetic for his Paladin, why wouldn't someone that's just paid a few hundred quid fork out a little more to play with his mandolls in a different manner? ( saying that I will be trying before I decide to buy or not, thanks to the wonders of the internet).
Do I approve? Not really, but that's how things have progressed so it's hard to blame them for trying it.
I imagine future Kill Team events at Warhammer World will still necessitate (free) event rules, so players can decide to join or not before buying a ticket. If not, the last released rules seem fine.
The constant releases and cash ins are seriouly turning me away from the game, which is a shame as I really like it:( Dont think I will be bothering to be honest, I have the last set of rules which seem ok and I have seem others online which are free for download, I will stick with them and keep what little cash I have:)
Yeah it seems to be the big news, not surprising I don't think, though the actual cause seems to be anyone's guess. With a little luck it'll happen next quarter too and maybe then they'll rethink their business plan.
This is a micro product which has been given away for years. During the time the business supported its ranges with free material, it experienced massive growth. Since those days ended they are on the decline. Profits down this half-year by 30%, sales down 12%. I expect the next report to look better as Escalation and Stronghold should trigger more sales.
Micro products are the result of the same product being sold on consoles and PC (DLC) which also used to be given away for free, GW just transferred it over to tabletop gaming before anyone else did. As for stronghold/ escalation, they might help a little but I think the new codex and army books will do more provided the vocal masses deem them worthy.
