Another plan I have is for Vehicle Datafaxes. All the location damage charts are pretty much identical. i.e. the track damage chart for the Land Raider is the same as the track damage chart for the Rhino. It should be simple to create an A4 master damage chart, with hull, tracks, sponson, turret, crew etc to consult. Makes it easy to come up with a new vehicle. Even Marine bikes and Eldar jet bikes have identical damage charts.
It's only really as broken as the players allow it to be. All games suffer from broken rules and balance issues. Some things I love about 2e are: - Closer/distant targets are easier/harder to hit - Vehicles (eg. bikes) don't halt each turn. If moving fast they have to slow down before stopping - Heavy automatic weapons can jam - Vehicles can break in interesting ways - Units can split their fire - Secret missions and psyker powers
I think it's great for skirmish or narrative games. I particularly like the choices you have- move,run,charge,hide,overwatch...fire a weapon or throw a grenade? Some things were horribly broken in 2nd, but some things are in 6th! However I think the actual game mechanics are pretty solid, once you've read the rulebook a few times...just look at the popularity of Necromunda.
So... I'm a Tau player love them to bits and have nearly 5000pts now.. The problem is every single one of those points is useless to play as they weren't around in 2e.. Neither was half of my Khorne army.
I just find 2e to be too restrictive as a regular game system. Maybe as a nostalgia game once in a while using edition specific models. My only gripe with it is that it was extremely over complicated
No official Tau, but on the bright side there's Squats instead! I do have a Tau codex, but having never read any Tau codex I can't say if it's any good.

Almost complete list of 2e White Dwarf articles.
