They look like their ready to do impromptu mining than fight on a battlefield... what next are we going to get rules to gather resources to summon reinforcements during a game followed my base building during a battle?
They do have a very Apocalypse feel to them however, an Ironclad equivalent version of a space marine if you will, but having yet to read the new apoc book that's just guess work.
@paul - I second the motion that they don't ruin Fenris's finest.
LOL, GW suck. Have you seen the new Privateer press stuff? Privateer, Infinity and dropzone just go from strength to strength and GW are getting worse.
How can you say that after the drooling you done over the Wraithknight Tom :P Besides it's for a new Codex, wouldn't be right and proper if there wasn't at least one unit in it folks disagreed on
I'm still holding out hopes that the new codex does not contain a supersized MC.
I had to re-pose and re-sculpt parts of the Wraithknight, it's far from perfect!!! Overall Eldar did pretty good I must say. But the new Necron Mega-Monolith, the Chaos thing? The Necron flyer, both space marine flyers, and now these weird looking ... I'm just saying it's sometimes good: Warpsmith, Wraithguard, Warp Talons etc, I just don't think they're are getting consistently better like some of their competitors.
Fantasy is still going from strength to Strength though :-)
They're Dorfs not dwarves and I'm not. Whenever I play D&D I insist on there being a dorf in the group ( it's not a good party unless there's a dorf in it!), but that's where they belong. In fantasy and not space, due to lack of decent fluff and height restrictions ( you need to be THIS tall to ride on this spaceship )
I don't think they will return for the same reasons they went away. Poor naming, lazy stereotyping, lack of direction. 40K scale land trains look epic though (no pun intended).
What is the background to the Squats? They can't just be "Dwarfs, but in space" the same way Eldar are not simply "Evles, but in space" what's their story?
Space Lizardmen? Why not, they've already sci-fi'd all the other achetypes, though I deffo prefer the Squats. The Stronghold, long thought lost before the Tyranid onslaught, re-emerge with a chip on their shoulder and a power-axe to grind.
In the 40k fluff the squat homeworld and planets were eaten by hive fleet Kraken.The remaining squats were forcibly conscipted into the imperial guard,where they slowly were killed in action till there were none left.

Marine version of obliterators/mutilators maybe?

40K is due a new race. They are missing the sci-fi classic of reptilians!
Indeed Eldar are simply Elves, but in space. Their story line has advanced as the years have gone by, but that's how they started out...
