Epic

edited May 2013 in Wargames
After seeing the Space Marine box game up for sale at club this week, I dug out my old copy and realised I dont think I ever got round to playing it!
Was hoping for a few games at club with folks if anyone is up for it? Just picked up a cheap copy of epic armaggedon rule book too if anyone fancies playing or getting into epic?

  • I love epic,but which to play?

A lot of people loved Space Marine but I never played it. It is being kept alive by fans though:

3rd edition, Epic 40,000 was universally hated by everyone but me by the look of it. Very slick, streamlined and probably too clever...the same rules as Battlefleet Gothic, which everyone agrees is a great game. All the army lists are in the book, and there were virtually no errata or amendments.

The current version is Epic:Armageddon. We got a few army lists in the book, and then the game was abandoned. There have been so many errata and FAQs that the printed rulebook is very out of date, but luckily it is available for free as an updated pdf from GW. It too is being kept alive by the community, and most army lists are fan-made:

My favourite was Epic 40,000, but I'd love to try the older version.
  • so there is a few players then , thats good news!
got the minis from the space marine box set to get me started, just looking for a few games to get me into the swing of things:)
  • Its all a bit confusing in terms of which to play?
I have a space marine rulebook as does the club now. I downloaded a few different rules sets lIke net epic and I have a copy of epic armageddon too so we could try a few and see which works best for us?
  • Epic/NetEpic has the greatest amount of compatibility with all previously released figures and units. It features the command counters and has more special rules for certain unique units.

Armageddon is a faster, rules-lite interpretation of 6mm warfare.

I think both are fun and have their place.
  • I've got Imperial Guard and Orks
