A few things can be dropped from the rules entirely. Thinking of rank and file, plus things like missile immunity,shield ability,long weapons. But what needs to be added?All I can think of is move or fire for heavy weapons and re-writing the spells …

Could be a good thing. When GW supported the games, albeit minimally, people were constrained by what was 'official'. Now that the games are dead people might be a bit more adventurous.
